Claire watches, horrified, as Jamie is bent over a barrel and lashed with a leather strap. He doesn’t cry out. His eyes find hers in the crowd — not accusing, but steady. After the sixth lash, Claire steps forward.

“Stop.”

That’s when Jamie tells her the truth: he didn’t rescue her from the Redcoats — he surrendered to them. He traded himself for her. But the English broke their word. They tortured him. And then, in the chaos of a skirmish, he killed a soldier to escape. Claire watches, horrified, as Jamie is bent over

“I’d take them all.”

Once the door slams shut, Jamie rounds on Claire. Not with violence — but with a raw, trembling voice. “Do you know what I did to get you back? I threatened an English officer. I rode through the night. I killed a man.” After the sixth lash, Claire steps forward

“Don’t get used to it.” Back at Leoch, the spoils are divided. Dougal toasts Jamie as a hero. But Jamie’s eyes are on Claire, who sits apart, washing the blood from her hands.
