He’d been so close. Level 47 of Circloo —the maddeningly addictive puzzle game where you drag a tiny circle through a maze of spinning lines and pulsing orbs—was almost solved. He had mapped the pattern in his head: wait three seconds, cut left, ride the outer ring, then dash through the gap before the blue barrier snapped shut.

“What mirror site?”

The screen flickered. For one terrible second, he thought the filter had caught on. But then—a soft chime. The familiar dark-gray labyrinth appeared. The little circle pulsed at the start line, waiting.
